In the period between 2011 and 2012 FDA (Food and Drug Administration) claimed that they exposed the fake HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) that was present on the market. Since then, HCG products have become a “taboo” in the medical circles. Still, because of the high demand for this kind of product, there are many manufacturers that have continued to sell products based on this hormone. Although there are many reasons why this product was banned, we will try to explain why FDA banned HCG products.
First of all, FDA does recognize the “usefulness” of this hormone that is mostly produced by woman’s body during a pregnancy. FDA agrees that this hormone can help in treating infertility for example (among few other things), but they don’t approve the statement that HCG should be used by those who want to lose weight. A lot of specialists who work in FDA are claiming that there is no evidence that HCG can cause weight loss or that it decreases hunger or burns fat. Because of this, FDA considers that branding HCG as a product who will help someone to lose weight is nothing else but a fraud.
When you start to consume HCG products, you will need to start an HCG diet too. And this is something that FDA considers dangerous. According to FDA experts, consuming 500 calories per day can be hazardous to your health. Such diet could hurt your muscles, your heart, and your blood. Experts say that this kind of diet is prescribed sometimes, that is true. But this type of diet is created to help only the obese. An overweight person who wants to “shed some pounds” could be harmed by this type of diet. Also, this type of diet will also reduce your intake of vitamins, minerals, and most importantly protein.
NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE
Telling people that HCG causes weight loss is one thing, but talking about homeopathic products that could improve your metabolism and health is something completely different. According to FDA, selling products that are not properly tested and that don’t show visible results is not acceptable. Plus, there is no evidence about “what these products really do”. This is according to FDA experts.
INJECTIONS COULD HARM YOU
You can use HCG products orally (drops) or you can inject these directly into your body. According to FDA, many people complained that these injections caused more harm than benefits to them. Some people suffered allergies; some felt dizziness and some even had problems with their blood pressure. Because of all that, FDA was even more determined to stop the distribution of these products.
THESE KIND OF PRODUCTS ARE ONLY MAKING MORE HARM
FDA believes that selling a product that claims that will solve your problem but it fails to do so, can only do harm, not only for the consumer but for the manufacturers and health system in general. Simply put, placing a product on a market that isn’t capable of working properly is not tolerated by FDA. This way, consumers lose faith in the health system and they are risking their well-being when they consume such product.
